Our grade 3 students have been learning about dinosaurs in the Bible and people's encounters with them. The Bible says that God created all the land animals on Day 6 of the creation week, and this would include the dinosaurs. Genesis 1:25 states, “God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.”
The Bible does not contain the word “dinosaur” since it was translated into English centuries before the term existed. However, ancient texts, including the Bible, contain descriptions of creatures that match known dinosaurs.
Our grade 3 students have been learning about an ancient Egyptian plaque known as the Narmer Palette depicting humans handling two creatures that resemble long-necked dinosaurs. The animals on the plague have legs that extend straight down from their bodies and serpentine necks - two features found in sauropod dinosaurs.
At the Vine School our students are exposed to a body of knowledge that has been systematically obtained over centuries of careful observations and experimentation. They learn that there are natural systems in place, an order to all creation, governed by laws of nature, the details of which are still to be fully known, the intricacies pointing to the creator. They are trained to ask questions about the world in which they live. They make observations using tools and newly formed knowledge to draw conclusions.
